Driving with a Suspended License

Driving with a Suspended License

There are numerous reasons as to why a person may have his or her drivers license suspended or revoked, including being convicted of felony charges or failing to appear in court. However, under no circumstances is a driver with a suspended license to continue driving after the license has officially been suspended. Failure to comply with this law and driving with a suspended license can carry with it some serious criminal charges, including:

Misdemeanors

1st Conviction – Getting caught driving with a suspended license even just once    can leave you on the hook for up to 93 days in jail, a $500 fine, and the    cancellation of your vehicle registration plates.

2nd Conviction – Getting caught driving with a suspended license more than         once, however, will have you facing up to a full year in jail, a $1000 fine, and the          cancellation of your vehicle registration plates.

Felonies

In certain circumstances, such as causing the serious injury or death of someone while driving with a suspended license, you may face much steeper penalties. For example:

  • If you cause serious injury or harm to someone while driving with a suspended license, you are likely to suffer a prison sentence of up to five years and be forced to pay a fine valued between $1000 and $5000.
  • If, however, someone is killed while you are driving with a suspended license, you will face a much harsher sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine valued between $2500 and $10,000.

Your vehicle will also most likely be forfeited/immobilized upon your conviction.

So you see? Getting caught driving with a suspended license can be so much worse than simply being patient or getting in touch with our talented drivers license restoration attorneys at Fraiberg & Pernie, PLLC. Of course, if your mistakes have already been made and you are already facing charges for driving with a suspended license, the least you can do is let us try to help you avoid the maximum penalties for your charges.
